No. 48 Eagles Bounce Back with Dominant Win over Anderson

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – After a tough weekend, No. 48 Carson-Newman (5-4, 3-1 SAC) exercised its frustrations, sweeping Anderson (5-6, 1-5 SAC), 7-0.

The Eagles dominated in singles, winning all six matches. Paul Gayk earned his first South Atlantic Conference win of the season, only surrendering two games in a two-set sweep. Marnix Van Dalen, Marc Janse, and Gjorgji Jankulovski continued impressive campaigns with singles wins, while newcomer Matthew Saunders earned his fifth win.

SINGLES RESULTS

No. 1: Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) def. Vincent Mico Fenollar (AU), 6-2/6-0

No. 2: Marc Janse (C-N) def. Sky Thavornchaisophon (AU), 8-2

No. 3: Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) def. Joao Pedro Goncalves Mendes (AU), 6-1/7-6

No. 4: Lars Hordijk (C-N) def. Mathis Collignon (AU), 8-2

No. 5: Paul Gayk (C-N) def. Hamp Goldman (AU), 6-1/6-1

No. 6: Matthew Saunders (C-N) def. Patrick Cronin (AU), 8-7

The Eagles performed well in doubles, taking two out of three from the Trojans. The lone loss for C-N came in No. 2 doubles, where the newly-paired Janse and Saunders dropped the tight contest. Despite that result, the Eagles took No. 1 and 3 doubles to secure the point.

With the bounce-back result, C-N will look for similar success at Coker this weekend.
