No. 48 C-N Sees Winning Streak Come to a Close, Falling to No. 31 Wingate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – In the last of three matches this week, No. 48 Carson-Newman (8-5, 6-2 SAC) saw its four-match conference win streak come to a close at the hands of No. 31 Wingate (8-5, 6-0 SAC), dropping the match, 5-2.

Despite the loss, the Eagles showed a valiant effort, overcoming the fatigue from the previous two days to compete at a high level against a quality Bulldogs team.

"They battled extremely well," head coach Jon Parker said. "This loss only reinforces the belief that we can compete with anyone."

Singles play was extremely competitive between the two sides, as the top four matches all went to three sets. In those four matches, Marnix Van Dalen and Marc Janse earned three-set wins in the No. 1 and 2 slots, respectively, while Gjorgji Jankulovski and Lars Hordijk dropped close three-set battles in No. 3 and 4 singles. Wingate went on to win No. 5 and 6 singles, earning four of the six points.
