No. 48 Eagles Overcome Early Deficit, Defeat Coker

HARTSVILLE, SC – Despite falling behind early, No. 48 Carson-Newman (6-4, 4-1 SAC) rallied to take down Coker (2-10, 1-5 SAC), 5-2.

The Eagles dropped the doubles point and the first singles match but ripped off five consecutive singles wins to overcome the two-point deficit and win the match comfortably. Despite dropping the match in No. 6 singles, C-N secured wins in the top five slots to earn its fourth conference victory.

No. 1: Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) def. Thibaut Decaluwe (Coker), 6-2/6-1

No. 2: Marc Janse (C-N) def. Tom Lamers (Coker), 6-3/7-5

No. 3: Lars Hordijk (C-N) def. Samuel Winter (Coker), 6-2/6-2

No. 4: Paul Gayk (C-N) def. Andy Huynh (Coker), 7-5/6-7/6-4

No. 5: Matthew Saunders (C-N) def. Carlos Fernando Nau (Coker), 6-3/7-6

No. 6: Joao Casas Moreira (Coker) def. Yehor Opanasenko (C-N), 6-2/6-0

In doubles, the Eagles' all-conference duo of Lars Hordijk and Marnix Van Dalen secured a win in the No. 1 slot, but the Cobras took the next two to earn the point. Despite losing the point, C-N came within a game of earning the point in No. 3 doubles.
