Back-to-back matches in store for C-N on the weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman men's tennis team will begin back-to-back days of action on the road starting Friday at Lee for a non-conference tilt and then Saturday at Queens (N.C) for the squad's second to last South Atlantic Conference match of the regular season.

The Eagles (6-10, 3-6) will serve off against the Flames (10-9) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and then begin play at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon against the Cobras (8-2, 6-1).

"We have a non-conference match this week against Lee prior to a Saturday's conference match with Queens," coach Jean Love said. "We are looking to continue to work on doubles and singles improvements during the non-conference match. Queens is one of the top-teams in our conference and it will be a huge challenge for our team."

Lee will be coming into the contest losing its last two outings and its last three of four contest of the season. The Flames were defeated by Tennessee Wesleyan 5-4 on March 30 and by North Alabama 8-1 on April 1.

Competing in the Gulf South Conference, Lee has a 3-5 record in conference and is coached by Patric Hynes who is in his 10th season. The roster is made up of no seniors, two juniors in Kip Kahler and Westley Lemke, one sophomore and six freshman.

Saturday's conference matchup at Queens features the SAC's current third-placed team.  The Cobras' lone league loss of the season came in their last outing of the season against Wingate 6-3 on April 4. Coached by Billy Boykin, Queens sports a loaded roster of three seniors, six juniors, three sophomores and three freshman.

Preseason All-Conference selections Per-Erik Soler and Jules Athalis have a combined 23-7 record for the Cobras competing in the top-two spots in the lineup. Zachery Williams is also putting together a noteworthy season for Queens as the junior has put forth 14-2 record as the squad's No. 6 player in singles.
