Waleska, Ga.—After picking up a key South Atlantic Conference win on April 2 against Mars Hill, the Carson-Newman men's tennis team falls to out-of-conference Reinhardt 8-1 Wednesday afternoon in Waleska, Ga.

"It was a disappointing day for the guys," coach Jean Love said following the loss. "We just couldn't find any consistency today."

Reinhardt (10-3) jumped out the gates hot by sweeping all three contests in doubles play from the Eagles (6-10).

Emory Deloach and Fabio Pereira began things for the home squad with an 8-4 win over Carson-Newman's No. 1 pairing of Stefano Daza (Venezuela) and Juan Sebastian Perez (Ecuador). Maksim Yorsh and Nikita Hrynov would keep pace in the second0seeded match while defeating Joao Pedro Oliveira (Brazil) and Jesus Barcete-Sanz (Spain) 8-6 a court over.

Kevin Mendes (Woodstock, Ga.) and Lee Presson (Crossville, Tenn.) would then fall to Brandon Lane and Nicolas Duarte 8-4 at in the bronze round to conclude doubles play.

Reinhardt would carry the momentum on into singles play by taking five of the six contest in the second round of action. The only team-point Carson-Newman accounted for on the day came in the fifth match where Mendes took down Lane 1-6, 7-5 and 10-7 in three sets.

The Eagles No.1 player Oliveira fell 7-5, 6-2 to Fabio Pereira while Daza struggled with Duarte a court over in the third-seeded contest to lose 6-4 in two sets. Freshman Marc Bantel (Germany) would then come up short in the No. 4 match, losing 5-7, 6-2 and 10-4 against Hrynov.

For the first time in the 2016 season, Taylor Barie (Woodstock, Ga.) competed for the Eagles. The sophomore came up short to Anton Zimin 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth match.

Perez lost for the first time in seven matches Wednesday afternoon as the junior fell to Deloach 6-3 in two sets in the No. 2 match. The loss was the first defeat of Perez since coming up short to Lenoir-Rhyne's Tom Hons 6-7, 4-6 on March 16.

The Eagles will be back in action Friday with another non-conference tilt at Lee beginning at 3:00 p.m. Carson-Newman will then flip the script back into conference play on Saturday when the team travels to Queens to make up an early season cancellation beginning at 2:30 p.m.
