No. 49 C-N Earns its Second Ranked Win of the Week, Defeating No. 41 LMU 5-2

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Facing its second ranked foe of this week, No. 49 Carson-Newman (10-5, 8-2 SAC) handled business against in-state rival No. 41 Lincoln Memorial (15-8, 6-5 SAC), 5-2.

"We dominated in doubles play," head coach Jon Parker said. "We ran into a little trouble in singles play, but we raised our game."

In singles play, the Eagles secured points in the top four slots, securing the win over the Railsplitters. Marnix Van Dalen and Marc Janse battled out three-set victories in the No. 1 and 2 positions, while Lars Hordijk and Gjorgji Jankulovski earned wins in straight-set fashion. The Railsplitters locked up points at No. 5 and 6 singles, but it was not enough.

SINGLES RESULTS

No. 1: Marnix Van Dalen (C-N) def. Alexandru Giurea (LMU), 6-4/0-6/6-3

No. 2: Marc Janse (C-N) def. Radu Florea (LMU), 6-3/4-6/6-4

No. 3: Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) def. Thom Hermans (LMU), 7-5/6-4

No. 4: Lars Hordijk (C-N) def. William Jonsson (LMU), 6-2/7-6

No. 5: Franco Battaglino (LMU) def. Paul Gayk (C-N), 6-3/6-3

No. 6: Harper Mills (LMU) def. Matthew Saunders (C-N), 6-3/6-3

It was more of the same in doubles, as the Eagles secured the point. Despite losing in the No. 1 slot, C-N battled back by winning in No. 2 and 3 doubles to secure the point. The Eagles tried new pairings against the Railsplitters, as Marc Janse and Paul Gayk paired up while Gjorgji Jankulovski and Matthew Saunders took the No. 3 court.

With the win, C-N will look forward to this weekend, where it will host Newberry on Saturday before heading to Mars Hill on Sunday to wrap up the regular season.
