Eagles Drop First SAC Contest at Catawba

SALISBURY, NC—Carson-Newman (4-3, 2-1 SAC) couldn't get it done on the road on Saturday afternoon, as Catawba (4-5, 3-0 SAC) stayed unblemished in conference play with a 5-2 win.

It was a competitive day in singles, as three of the six matches between C-N and Catawba went to three sets. In those three matches, the Indians came out on top in two of the three. The two points on the day for the Eagles came on wins by Gjorgji Jankulovski in No.3 and Lars Hordijk in No. 5.

No. 2: Mateo Berne (CAT) def. Marc Janse (C-N), 6-3/1-6/6-4

No. 3: Gjorgji Jankulovski (C-N) def. Tyler Juergens (CAT), 3-6/6-1/1-0

No. 4: Alessandro Valleta (CAT) def. Paul Gayk (C-N), 6-5/4-6/6-3

No. 5: Lars Hordijk (C-N) def. Ryan Little (CAT), 8-3

No. 6: Marcos Casteres (CAT) def. Matthew Saunders (C-N), 6-4/6-2

Catawba swept doubles, taking all three matches to secure the point. Despite the losses, C-N kept each match within three games.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround, as they will look to bounce back against Lee in Jefferson City on Sunday morning at 11 AM.
