Railsplitters down Eagles 7-2 in Wednesday matinee

HARROGATE, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman men's tennis team's losing skid reached to three-straight matches the Eagles fell to Lincoln Memorial 7-2 Wednesday evening at the LMU Tennis Courts in Harrogate, Tenn.  

"Just another tough loss and there not much else to say," coach Jean Love said following the match. "Juan [Sebastian Perez] continues to play good singles and J.P. [Oliveira] played outstanding today in a singles with a comeback win."

The Eagles began the contest losing all three doubles matches to begin things off in the conference tilt.

Stefano Daza (Venezuela) and Perez fell to Joshua Coulthard and Moritz Hoerner 9-8 (7-3) in the first-seeded contest. Oliveira and Jesus Barcete-Sanz (Spain) would then follow with an 8-3 loss at No. 2 while Lee Presson (Crossville, Tenn.) and Kevin Mendes (Woodstock, Ga.) concluded doubles play with an 8-5 loss in the third round of matches.

Things began to take a turn for the netter as both Oliveira and Perez picked up singles victories atop the Eagle lineup.

Oliveira battled back to pick up a win in the No. 1 match 3-6, 7-6 and 6-2 over Joshua Coulthard. Perez would then follow a court over with another C-N win as the junior took a 6-3, 6-4 win in the second-seeded contest. 

Carson-Newman would then lose its final four matches in singles play to finish the day with a 7-2 score.

Daze fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 while Marc Bantel (Germany) lost a three-set match 6-3, 3-6 and 6-2 to Joshua Peress in the fourth-round of matches.

Mendes and Barcete would conclude the day for the Eagles with a 6-4, 7-6 loss at No. 5 and a 6-2, 6-3 loss at No. 6. 

The Eagles will try to tally a mark in the win column when the squad resumes play Saturday at Mars Hill beginning at 1:00 p.m.
