Tennessee Wesleyan welcomes C-N for a pair of fall matches

Jean Love Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—Trying to find sunlight in a rain filled fall schedule, the Carson-Newman men's tennis team will head down to Tennessee Wesleyan College this Saturday for a double header tennis showdown with Reinhardt University and the Wesleyan Bulldogs.

The Eagles will begin the day as playing host to Reinhardt at 9 a.m. and conclude the twofold day with Tennessee Wesleyan at 1 p.m.

"Well first of all, I'm glad we are getting the opportunity to play," coach Jean Love said. "Our four play games this fall, we have only gotten one in because of weather. Tomorrow's weather forecast isn't too great either."

Both Reinhardt University and Tennessee Wesleyan College compete in the NAIA division for the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

A year ago, Reinhardt finished 15th in the nation following a 12-4 record after being knocked out of the NAIA playoffs in the round of 16. A predominantly young team returns, as six of the nine players are either freshman or sophomores.

Tennessee Wesleyan also had a year to remember for the 2014-2015 season after posting a 17-3 record a year ago. The Bulldogs return an even slate of returners, as six upperclassmen and five underclassmen make up the 11 man squad.

"We just need to get out on the court against someone other than ourselves," Love said. "We need to do what we can do. We need to see how out players react to outside competition."
