Tornadoes and Bears travel to Mossy Creek for weekday showdowns

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—The Eagles welcome a pair of South Atlantic Conference foes to the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex for matinee contests between Brevard and Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon as Carson-Newman looks for its first conference win of the season and their first win since Feb. 27.

"We play two conference opponents  in-a-row over the course of this week.  For us, we must focus on one match at a time," coach Jean Love said.  "I know that is what every coach says but it is so true for us.  For both men and women, we have got to come out and set the tone by playing good doubles.  We've got to focus on  the process of doing the little things well enough times so that the outcome takes care of itself.  In singles play, we have given good effort so far this season.  We just got the keep the faith and continue to fight for every point."

After starting the season 0-3, C-N (1-5, 0-2) picked up a 7-2 win over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 27, but have since dropped two home matches in a row to Southern Indiana and Coker, but the Eagles will have two opportunities to tally wins in the conference standings this week.

Brevard (1-10, 0-5) has one win on the season that came on a March 3 matchup against St. John Fisher (6-3). Picked 12th in the league polls prior to the start of the 2016 season, the Tornadoes concluded the 2015 season with a 4-13 (0-11 SAC) record and return only two upperclassmen to the roster this season.

David Taggard and Christoph Plasa act as the only senior and junior on the squad this season. The roster also only field one sophomore in Dan Taylor and four true freshman.

Coached by Evan Schreiner, Brevard's last meeting with Carson-Newman came on March 15 a season ago as the Tornadoes dropped the 5-4 decision to the Eagles.

Sunday was originally supposed to serve as Carson-Newman's contest between Lenoir-Rhyne, but thanks to continued rainfall throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning, the match was postponed to Wednesday.

L-R are losers of its last five matches coming into Wednesday's contest. The last win the Bears have to date came all the way back on Feb. 25 with a 6-3 win over Mars Hill.

Lenoir-Rhyne was slated to finish 10th in the preseason SAC polls by league officials and coaches prior to the start of the 2016 campaign.

Coached by Dean Mathias, the Bears record four seniors, one sophomore and three freshman on the roster this season.
