Eagles Land in Silver Bracket Ahead of Day Three

TAVARES, Fl. - Carson-Newman beach volleyball (25-6) splits a pair of matches on day two of the AVCA Small College Championship. The Eagles defeated Eckerd College (4-14) in a nail-biting 3-2 victory before being shut out by the University of Tampa (18-13) 3-0.

The Eagles have been placed in the Silver Bracket after accumulating a 2-2 record at the tournament so far. The Eagles will begin Sunday's action with a matchup against Spring Hill at 9:15 A.M. If they win, they will move on to play the winner of the Texas A&M at Kingsville vs. Saint Leo match. If they lose, the Eagles will play the loser of the aforementioned match for third place in the silver bracket.

"For the game this morning we showed great grit," head coach Cat Lind said. "We fought for every point and had great focus. It was one of the best games this team has had."

Carson-Newman's win over Eckerd marks just their fourth at the AVCA Tournament in program history. It also marks the first time in program history that the Eagles have won twice at the event during the same season.
