Beach Volleyball Competes Against a Trio of OVC Opponents at Scenic City Showdown

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman beach volleyball (21-0) heads to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete in the Scenic City Showdown starting Friday, Mar. 31st.  

Carson-Newman will begin action against Liberty University (3-1) at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, Mar. 31st, before competing against UT Martin (12-6) at 5:00 P.M. The Eagles will then take on Eastern Kentucky University (10-8) at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday before playing against the hosts, Chattanooga (8-5) at 5:00 P.M.

The Eagles are nearing the end of their historic season. Lind's squad has finished undefeated at home in her third straight season. Carson-Newman's 21-win rolls over the previous program record of 15 wins set last year. The Eagles have racked up 16 shutouts this year, blowing by their previous record of five set in 2016 and again in 2022.

Carson-Newman's perfect record in Feb. Marked the second time in program history that the Eagles ended a month without losing. The first occurrence was in 2020 when the Eagles only played seven games that season. The Eagles could finish Mar. with a perfect record for the first time in program history if they can take down Division I opponents Liberty University and UT Martin on Friday.

Four Eagles surpassed Morgan Siwiec's record of most individual wins in a season with 20. Ava Fountain, Abbey Hildenbrand, Julia Wheeler, and McKenna Hall each have picked up 21 this season.

Sierra Still set the record for most individual wins in program history this season. Still has a record of 45-22 during her time at Carson-Newman. Mia Torbio moved into second place in school history with a record of 40-23. Before this season, The record for most wins by a player was set by Morgan Siwiec with 32. Six players have advanced past Siwiec's record.

Liberty University is competing in its 10th beach volleyball season. Carson-Newman has yet to compete against the Flames. Last season, the Flames finished with a record of 5-8, including a 1-1 record against SAC schools. The Flames took down LMU 5-0 but lost to Tusculum 2-0. Liberty began this season with a 6-0 victory over Spartanburg Methodist and a 3-2 win over Erskine College on Mar. 2nd. The Flames lost their next competition 5-0 against North Carolina Wilmington before defeating Catawba University on Mar. 5th.

Carson-Newman's second matchup will be against UT Martin. The Eagles' only matchup against UT Martin was on Mar. 18th of, 2017, when the Eagles won 5-0 to mark their second and final win of that year. The two teams were scheduled to meet last season, but the game was canceled. The Skyhawks have won 6 consecutive matches after starting the season 6-6. In their most recent action, the Skyhawks defeated Tennessee Tech 5-0 and Lindenwood 4-1 on Mar. 25th.

The Eagles will begin Saturday with a matchup against Eastern Kentucky University. Carson-Newman is 3-1 against the Colonels all-time. Their most recent matchup was last season when the Eagles defeated the Colonels 4-1. Eastern Kentucky's lone win against Carson-Newman was back in 2019 when they won 4-1. The Colonels are currently riding a two-game losing streak. On Mar. 24th, they hosted a tournament where they defeated Tusculum 3-2 and Liberty 5-0. The next day, the Colonels lost 3-2 to Austin Peay University and 3-2 to Tusculum. Eastern Kentucky is 2-1 against SAC schools this season.

Carson-Newman will close out the weekend with a matchup against the Chattanooga Mocs. The Eagles are 1-2 all-time against the Mocs after losing their matchup 4-1 last season. Carson-Newman's last victory against Chattanooga was on Mar. 24th, 2021, when the Eagles split a pair of doubleheaders against the Mocs. Chattanooga is riding a four-game winning streak despite starting the season 4-5. Their most recent action was at the OVC Weekend Invitational, where they won 4-1 against Lindenwood, 4-1 against Morehead St., 4-1 against Eastern Illinois, and 3-2 over Tennessee Tech University.

Action will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Friday against Liberty University.
