Quintet of beach volleyball players earns CSC Academic All-District At-Large honors

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the first time in program history, the Carson-Newman Beach Volleyball has had an athlete selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large team. 

Not only has the program had one student-athlete selected, but five Eagles are represented on the team, released Tuesday by the CSC. 

Piper Halcrow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.), McKenna Hall (Bristol, Wis.), Kenzie Palmer (Flagstaff, Ariz.), Mia Toribio (Spring, Texas) and Julia Wheeler (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) were all recognized for their efforts.

The at-large program is comprised of the following sports: Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Bowling, Women's Crew/Rowing, Men's and Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Rifle, Men's and Women's Skiing,  Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Water Polo and Men's Wrestling.

Halcrow was a recipient of the AVCA's Top Flight Award with Jenny Ille. The duo was 12-3.  Halcrow finished the year with 22 wins on the year after pairing with Ashlyn Phair the back half of the year.  The 22 wins are the third-most for a single season in school history.

Hall and Wheeler also qualified for the AVCA Top Flight Award.  Hall and Wheeler tallied a 26-7 record on the year, setting the single-season program record for wins by a duo.  The pair started the year with 22 straight wins before falling on March 31.  Of those 22 straight wins, 18 came via straight sets.

Palmer was 11-5 on the year, with the bulk of the wins coming at flight four with Taylor Keeran.  That pairing was 7-1 on the year.  She also paired with Halcrow to go 4-4 at Flight 5. She finished her Carson-Newman career with 17 wins. 

Finally, Toribio overcame early season injuries to wrap up her C-N career with a 15-10 record.  She paired with Taylor Keeran at Flight 3.  Once paired together, the duo rattled off a season-long seven-match winning streak from Feb. 24 – March 11.
