Eagles Begin March Action with a Trip to Laurinburg, N.C.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman beach volleyball (11-0) will look to extend its winning streak when they head to Laurinburg, N.C., to compete against Lynchburg University (3-5) and Bob Jones University (0-0) on Friday, Mar. 3rd before seeing St. Andrews University (3-8) and Bob Jones University on Saturday, Mar. 4th.

The Eagles began the season with five straight 5-0 victories. Three matches were against LaGrange, and the other two were against Truett McConnell. The Eagles saw their first 4-1 victory when they took on St. Andrews on Feb. 10th.

Carson-Newman defeated Huntingdon 5-0 before winning 4-1 against Truett McConnell, Berry College, and Tennessee Tech. The Eagles defeated Spartanburg Methodist 5-0 in their most recent action on Feb. 25th

The Eagles outscored their opponents 51-4 during February, marking the largest margin during a single month in school history. The Blue and Orange also won seven 5-0 sweeps, beating their previous season-best of five sweeps. Carson-Newman racked up 11 wins, marking the most in a single month in school history. The Eagles went undefeated during February, marking only the second time in school history that the Eagles finished any month without a loss. The first occurrence was in February of 2020 when the Eagles won three games in February on their way to a 6-1 Covid-19 shortened season.

Ava Fountain and Abbey Hildenbrand boast an 11-0 score, with all their wins coming in at the two spot. McKenna Hall and Julia Wheeler also hold an 11-0 record. They won three in the four spot and eight in the three spot. Piper Halcrow and Ashlyn Phair are 6-0, all in the five spot.

Sierra Still will look to extend her record for most wins in program history. She currently holds 35 dubs, nine of which she's picked up this season in the one spot paired with Truth Hafey. Mia Toribio has a chance to move into second place this weekend. Toribio needs just one win to tie Morgan Siwiec's 32 wins for second. McKenna Hall currently ranks first in school history in win percentage among players that have competed in an entire season. Ashlyn Phair and Ava Fountain hold a perfect record in their first season with the Eagles.

Carson-Newman will begin the weekend with a matchup against Lynchburg on Friday. Lynchburg began the season with a pair of 4-1 losses against Catawba. They went on to split a pair of matches against Richard Bland University. The division-III Hornets lost against Huntingdon 5-0 before picking up a pair of wins against LaGrange. They lost 3-2 to Huntingdon in their most recent action on Feb. 25th. The Hornets are in their inaugural beach volleyball season.

The Eagles will play Bob Jones University at 2:00 P.M. on Friday. The Bruins have yet to play a game this season but finished last year 6-11 in their inaugural season. The Bruins have played in three exhibition games to start the 2023 season. They lost their first matchup 4-1 against Erskine. They lost a pair of 5-0 matches against Tennessee Tech and Berry College.

The Eagles will face off against St. Andrews for the second time this season. The Eagles won their first matchup 4-1, with wins coming from Hafey/Still, Hildenbrand/Fountain, Hall/Wheeler, Phair/Halcrow, as well as an exhibition match draw from Calla Shotwell and Kat Nelson. St. Andrew's only victories of the year have come against LaGrange, followed by a pair of victories against Gaston Community College.
