Volleyball closes October with SAC match against the Wasps

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman Volleyball will travel to Emory, Virgnia on Friday night to take on the Wasps at the John Rutledge King Center, set for 6 pm.

They have already met once this season in early September when C-N completed a sweep over the Wasps in Holt Fieldhouse. 

Carson-Newman averaged a .272 hitting percentage on the night and held Emory & Henry down to -.021 and only twenty kills. The Eagles outperformed the Wasps in kills (38-20), service aces (10-3), digs (50-36), and blocks (11.0- 4.0). In each of the three sets played, Emory & Henry did not score more than 16 points. 

Julia Wheeler led the match with nine kills. Taylor Adams and Emmagrace Cobb followed directly behind with eight apiece. Cobb shot an efficient .538 with eight kills in only 13 attempts and no errors. Taylor Keeran gathered three kills on top of seven block assists to lead the Eagle's blocking force. Wheeler and Carlee Allbaugh led the Eagles defensively with nine saves each. 

Freshman outside hitter Grace Duey led the Wasps with five kills and a .111 hitting percentage. She was succeeded by Samantha Worthy with four. Junior Grace Nelson collected a match high 14 digs. 

Since the match between Carson-Newman and Emory & Henry on Sept. 12, the Waps have gathered six wins and eight losses. In their most recent conference matchup, Emory & Henry beat Lincoln Memorial in four tightly contested sets at the John Rutledge King Center. Though both the Wasps and the Railsplitters had 47 kills apiece, Emory & Henry led in service aces (8-5), digs (57-45), and total blocks (8.0-5.0).
