JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - After taking the first two frames and going for a sweep, Carson-Newman dropped two in a row to LMU to tie the score. The Eagles prevailed on Saturday and dominated the fifth set for their fourth win at home this season.

"We know that momentum is such a huge thing. We have to keep making them earn their points." said Food City player of the game, Trinty Hafey. "When we lose a bit of momentum in the fourth set we have to carry it through to he fifth and keep going for the next set."

Carson-Newman remains undefeated in Holt Fieldhouse this season, as well as undefeated in five set matches.

Mckenna Hall recorded a match high of 18 digs, leading the Eagles in saves for the second time in her career.

Julia Wheeler notched eighteen kills, her fourth straight match with double digit kill efforts. Her 16 digs marked her fourth double-double on the season.

Taylor Adams added another three service aces to her stat sheet, for a total of ten on the weekend.

Blair Cherry captured a match high of 40 assists, as well as 10 digs to complete her fourth double-double as a freshman.

Lincoln Memorial's Kristen Moehring tied with Julia Wheeler in kills, grabbing 18 for the Railsplitters. Moehring has scored 18 kills against the Eagles in both matches played this season. She was the only Railsplitter to earn more than five kills in the match at Holt Fieldhouse.

Collectively, Lincoln Memorial rejected 12 balls, doubling Carson-Newman's six. Maggie Sanderson and Sierras Lemons both notched five block assists a piece. Blair Cherry led the Eagles in blocks, also with 5 block assists.

Set 1 ( 25-22)

The Eagles captured a lead early on before a four point scoring run for LMU tied the teams at 18-18. Coach Ashley Tiernan responded with a timeout for the Eagles before Kristen Moehring scored three back to back kills to give the Railsplitters the edge. A pair of  kills from Taylor Adams, a pair from Julia Wheeler, and a pair of errors from LMU gave C-N the set.

Set 2 (25-19)

After a few exchanges of the lead, Lincoln Memorial held a three point advantage over the Eagles at 18-15. C-N shifted gears and outscored LMU 10-1 to take the set 25-19.

Set 3 (23-25)

As Carson-Newman fans eagerly awaited a sweep, the Railsplitters had other plans. LMU utilized seven kills from Moehring and 14 as a unit to stay in the game and mark the score 2-1.

Set 4 (17-25)

LMU surged ahead fast in set 4, collecting a nine point lead at 16-7. C-N could not close in on their deficit and concluded the fourth set seven points behind.

"They did a great job at adapting to us." said head coach Ashley Tiernan. "They got a lot of momentum from some big swings on their side from their two outsides. We couldn't stop them in big moments so we lost a lot of momentum there and played defeated for a little while. But we knew that we needed to come into that fifth set with a complete reset button and just get after it."

Set 5 (15-7)

Tiernan's crew did just that and hit the reset button. Nine digs, nine kills, two service aces, and a block later, Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial shook hands in Holt Fieldhouse with a final score of 3-2 in favor of the Eagles.

Carson-Newman sees Wingatate at home next Friday at 6 p.m.
