Eagles will close out regular season at Anderson

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman (14-15, 11-6 SAC) will travel to Anderson, South Carolina for their final regular season match of 2023 against the Anderson Trojans (23-4, 15-2 SAC) on Friday night at 6 pm. 

The Eagles and Trojans have not met this season yet, and Friday night will mark their 33rd recorded match-up. Anderson lead 17-15, since their first game in 1992. They also lead 4-2 since Ashley Tiernan became head coach in 2019. 

The Eagles completed a sweep over the Trojans in their sole match of 2022 in Holt Fieldhouse. Carson-Newman led in kills (45-28), hitting percentage (.274- .062), and digs (70-51). 

As one of the hottest teams of the South Atlantic Conference, Anderson has gone 15-2 in league play this season, having lost once to Wingate and once to Lenoir-Rhyne. They have won 12 of the last 13 SAC matches. 

Coach Todd Hay has produced a highly offensive squad that leads the league and is sixth nationally in kills per set (14.31). They also stand second in hitting efficiency with a .257 percentage.

The Trojans range in the middle of the league in sixth in digs per set (16.76) and fifth in team digs (1,559).

Senior setter leads the South Atlantic Conference in assists per set and total assists, averaging 11.29 per frame and has collected 1,016 this year. 

Anderson has four hitters on the SAC leaderboard for kill percentage. Jaelyn Grimm is second league wide with a .414 percentage, Brantley Chipley is third with .376, Sadie Kluner is 11th with .272, and Rylie Sargent is 14th with .258. 

The Trojans average 16.76 digs per set, with two athletes in the top 21 defenders of the conference.
