Jefferson City, Tenn. - In just an hour and five minutes, Carson-Newman shuts down Emory & Henry in three sets, completing a sweep and a dominating performance for their home opening match. 

After the past few weekends of learning opportunity, starting out the season 3-6, a momentum change was witnessed from Tiernan's crew in the gym tonight. 11 blocks, 38, kills, and a 65% side out percentage are just a few of the notable moments of performance. 

"I'm super proud that it was executed tonight the way that we've been planning and it's all just starting to fall in place and come together." says head coach Ashley Tiernan in regards to tonights debut. 

Set 1 (25- 16)

The match began evenly between the Eagles and Wasps, all three score ties happening within the first 14 points. After the 7-7 meetup, C-N pushed far into the lead after five straight kills, four of which came from outside hitter Taylor Adams. Seven more kills from the Eagles gave them the set with a nine point advantage over Emory & Henry. 

Set 2 (25-16)

Carson-Newman did not pull away from the Wasps until the the second half of the set, utilizing a four point scoring run followed a five point scoring run to conclude set two. The Eagles outshot and out scored Emory & Henry by over a .200 margin, and was more productive in total service aces, assists, digs, side-outs, and blocks.

Set 3 (25-12)

Trinity Hafey came out piping hot at the start of set three with a serve that Emory & Henry couldn't side-out on for 11 points. The Wasps errored eight time in these first 11 points of the set. Emory & Henry gathered a few points, attempting to close their deficit, but was shut down by Taylor Adam's three back-to-back aces. Adams single-handedly broke her career record in service aces with this display that placed C-N in a 15-2 lead. The momentum was too much for the Wasps to recover from, Carson-Newman left them behind at 12 points, taking the set to conclude the match. 

Highlights

Taylor Adams beat a personal career record in block assists (3), service aces (4), and total points (13.5). She led the squad in points scored and service aces. Taylor Keeran completed a season high of 8 kills, and tied her all time career record of block assists (7). Trinity Hafey scored a career high of two service aces. Skylor Weaver notched five block assists, good for a season record and one short of matching a career high.
