C-N welcomes Emory & Henry for home opener

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Eagles will open the newly renovated Holt Fieldhouse this Tuesday Sept. 12 at 6:00 P.M.  

"We are looking forward to playing in our gym tomorrow in front of our fans!" says head coach Ashley Tiernan. 

The two teams have only met up twice in program history after Emory & Henry Athletics moved up to D-2 and joined the South Atlantic Conference in July of 2021. Carson-Newman completed a sweep over the wasps in both of their meetings in 2022. They did not allow Emory & Henry to earn over 19 points in any of the six sets played last season. 

In 2022, their first season as SAC competition, Emory & Henry volleyball finished 5-23 overall and 4-14 in the conference. Their four SAC victories last season were found over UVA Wise twice, Limestone, and Lincoln Memoral. They were voted to finish 11th in the conference this season. 

Emory & Henry is 2-5 on their season thus far, collecting wins against Saint Augustine and Concord. The wasps have only competed in one SAC match-up, losing to Tusculum 1-3. The Eagles are undefeated in SAC competition this season after their neck and neck duel with Lincoln Memorial Sept. 5. 

Senior Brianna Hogan leads Emory & Henry in kills with 65 on the season so far. She notched a season high of 16 kills in their last match against Georgia College. Payton Rolfsen has carried her team in assists with 235 this season and Grace Nelson leads in digs: 97 total, good for 3.73 per set. 

The wasps collectively average 14 digs per set, 10. 65 assists, a .132 hitting effectiveness percentage, and 11.58 kills in their 7 matches so far. 

In comparison to Carson-Newman statistics, the Eagles average 12.59 digs per set, 10.28 assists, a .171 hitting efefctiveness percentage, and 11.09 kills after their first nine matches this season.

Carson-Newman has won their home opening matches four years in a row and have found a lot of success on home ground in general, going 12-1 at Mossy Creek last season.
