Volleyball looks to defend Holt against Cavaliers

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - After a full week on the road, the Eagles (10-14, 7-5 SAC) return home to Holt Fieldhouse to host the UVA Wise Cavaliers (9-9, 2-8 SAC) on Tuesday night at 6 pm.

The match on Tuesday night will mark the ninth meeting between the teams, dating back to 2019. Carson-Newman looks to defend an undefeated history with the Cavaliers. UVA Wise has only ever taken two sets from the Eagles in their eight recorded matches, both of which occurred in 2021.

The Eagles and the Cavaliers have met once already this season in late September at the David J. Prior Convocation Center. C-N earned their seventh straight win and third straight sweep over Wise (28-26, 25-22, 25-23).

Carson-Newman collected 46 digs, 79 digs, 6.0 blocks, and two service aces against the Cavaliers. UVA Wise had 47 kills, 75 digs, 8.0 blocks, and four service aces against the Eagles in the tightly contested sets. C-N was more efficient offensively with a .227 hitting percentage and only 14 attacking errors. Wise shot .136 and collected 25 errors.

Julia Wheeler and Taylor Adams both gathered double digit kills for the Eagles. Junior Kaylee Scarce and Morgan Blankenship had double digit kills for the Cavaliers. Scarce has led her team offensively all season and resides fourth in the league for total kills (228) and kills per set (3.40).

UVA Wise leads the SAC in blocks per set, averaging 2.34 per frame. Middle blocker Cassidy Farley ranks first conference wide in blocks per set (1.39) and second for total blocks (79).

Defensively, the Cavaliers fall in the middle range of the South Atlantic Conference. They are seventh for digs per set (16.75)and seventh for total digs (1,122). Three defenders, Kamryn Livingston, Kaylee Scarce, and Abigail Curtis, are ranked in the top twenty in the conference.

Despite a handful of successful individuals, Wise has only notched two conference victories this season. They took down Coker (3-1) and Emory & Henry (3-2) in late September. They have not won a league matchup since September 26.
