JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Swimming coach Jordan Taylor is bringing back a familiar face to Carson-Newman Swimming, but as a coach this time. Taylor announced the hiring of former Carson-Newman All-American swimmer, Ben Young, as a new assistant coach for Carson-Newman Swimming Tuesday afternoon.

"Ben brings a lot of experience, especially here at Carson-Newman, as he was part of the first two years of the program." Taylor said. "He finished off his career an All-American, and up until this past year, has been top 5 in the program's history. Ben is one of the best candidates we could have hoped for. He knows this program inside and out and is passionate about swimming and upholding Carson-Newman's reputation."

Young is one of the five All-Americans in the C-N swimming program's short history. As a member of the Eagles, Young set several initial school records in the 50 free, 50 back, and 100 back. He was also a member of several relay teams that set school records in the 200 and 400 free as well as the 200 and 400 IM.

Prior to Carson-Newman, Young spent a couple years at Indian River State College, where he was a three-time All-American, NJCAA National Champion, and state qualifier an impressive eight times.

"It has been awesome to have this opportunity to come back and pick up where I left off." Young said. "Still have a lot to learn but I am truly excited to be back under Coach Taylor. He was a huge mentor to my coaching and athletic career, so to be back under his direction is something that excites me and makes me ready to help continue developing the program he has built here."

Along with Young becoming an assistant coach, Taylor will also have Evan Pinion staying on the staff as a part-time assistant coach and will bring Ashton Smith and Sara Duarte Garcia on as the new Graduate Assistants for Carson-Newman Swimming.

"This is the first time that we have had two brand new Graduate Assistants to the program. It is an opportunity to help them learn about how we do things here at Carson-Newman," Young said. "We want to help them not only in coaching, but what also help them progress the athletes forward."
