Jensen tops the record books as Eagles wrap up day three prelims

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior CJ Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) has been ever-so consistent for Carson-Newman swimming at the 2021 Division II Nationals, and Friday morning was no different. Jensen swam in the women's 200-yard butterfly prelims where she set the new event school record with a time of 2:01.79.

This breaks the previous record set by Lexy Raybon back in 2015. Jensen will be back tonight in hopes of securing another top event time as she competes in the 200-yard butterfly finals after finsihing in the top eight for the event. For C-N history, Jensen holds four of the top five times in the women's 200-yard butterfly after her record-setting performance.

Not to be outdone while making her individual event debut at 2021 Nationals in the women's 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore Kailee Morgan (Greenville, S.C.) came in fourth overall with a time of 1:02.25 which gives her a spot in tonight's 'A' event final. The time also makes Morgan the holder of the second, third, fourth, and fifth fastest times in event history for C-N. Only former All-American Maggie Melhorn joins Morgan on the leaderboard as she still holds the event record time of 1:01.14 set back in 2018.

Sophomore Rachel Peden (Boiling Springs, S.C.) started another day of activity for her time at 2021 Nationals with her presence in the women's 500-yard freestyle. Although she will not return in action tonight, Peden set the second fastest time in event history and a lifetime best as she came in at 5:02.86, placing her as 27th overall for Division II.

Junior Matthew George (Manchester, England) saw his second individual event action as he was a competitor in the men's 500-yard freestyle Friday morning. His time of 4:36.68 places him in the top-25 for the event as he will cheer on his teammates Jensen and Morgan in their respective event finals.

Finally, sophomore Manon Compagner (Balkburg, The Netherlands) has held a constant presence at Nationals thus far. She was in action for the third straight day as she competed in the women's 100-yard backstroke. Compagner could not make a top-eight time as she now turns her attention to her final events of 2021 Nationals which are the women's 100-yard freestyle and women's 400-yard freestyle relay tomorrow.

The Eagles will also see action beyond Jensen and Morgan in event finals as the women's 800-yard freestyle relay take to the pool as part of tonight's finals starting around 7 p.m. ET
