Raphael Lima named BMC Male Swimmer of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Sophomore Raphael Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has been named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Male Swimmer of the Week after his performance in C-N's dual-meet against Milligan on Nov. 7th in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Lima won the 50-yd freestyle in 20.84 and led off for the winning 400-yd freestyle relay team who won in 2:57.51

"I'm very grateful to have this honor bestowed upon me. I have to give credit to not only Coach Jordan and Ben, but also to my fellow swimmers who helped push me to be my best," Lima said. "The season is barely started, but having this honor means a lot as I continue feeling good in the pool."

His performances led C-N to a combined victory over the Buffaloes by a score of 381-141 to open the 2020-21 season for the Eagles.

It is the first time Lima has been bestowed the title of BMC Male Swimmer of the Week.

"Raphael is swimming some of his lifetime best right now and is up there in the top 5 of the country. He continues to be a stable for our relays." Carson-Newman head coach Jordan Taylor said.

Lima and the Eagles are looking to continue their success when they host the Bulldogs of Wingate this Saturday, Nov. 7th, while hoping to build up their imposing 24-3 home record.

"We have tough competition this weekend in Wingate, but I know Coach will have us ready and the team is ready to compete," Lima said. "This weekend will push us further and help us improve, but I know we can beat Wingate and continue our success so far."
