JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Sophomore Nikita Puzevich (Belarus) has been named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Male Swimmer of the Week. This distinction comes after a resounding individual performance against Mars Hill on Jan. 16th in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The standout point for Puzevich was the 50-yd freestyle which he was the victor with a time of 20.46. Puzevich was also a part of the men's 200-yd medley relay team who came in third with a time of 1:35.42 and the men's 400-yd freestyle relay team who won with a time of 3:06.90.

"I was so excited to get this award. I've been working really hard and have been improving over the season," Puzevich said. "My butterfly and backstroke have gotten better and making my way to Conference to continue improving."

Nikita Puzevich was a morale-booster for the Eagles who came out of the gate strong to start off 2021 and never looked back. He helped lead the men's team to a 203-42 victory as part of the Eagles overall 408-92 combined victory. This marked the first time the Eagles competed at home since they lost for the first time in 2,589 to Wingate on Nov. 14, 2020.

It is the first time an Eagle men's swimmer has been awarded BGMC Swimmer of the Week since Raphael Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won the week of Nov. 23. The Eagles and Puzevich are now focusing on their annual Blue v. Orange intrasquad this Friday before tuning their preparation toward hosting the Lions of Emmanuel College on Jan. 30 inside the MSAC.

"We lost to Blue team last year and I'm looking forward to getting revenge this year." Puzevich said. "It was definitely be an exciting meet on Friday. I have a couple goals for myself, the main one being to make it to Nationals and help my team get there as well."
