Eagles earn USCAA Scholar All-America honors

CSCAA Release

Colorado Springs, CO.— The Carson-Newman men's swim program have been recognized for their outstanding work inside the classroom during the Fall 2020 semester, as the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America announced their Scholar All-America team on Wednesday.

To be eligible for the award honor, the team must have had a minimum of 11 participants submit their grades. The C-N men's had 23 participants which led the team to an overall Fall 2020 GPA of 3.55 effort in the Fall. The Eagles come in 0.01 ahead of fellow BGMC foe, Queens, who came in with the third-highest team GPA of 3.54 on the men's side.

"I am very proud of all our swimmers and the combined team GPA of 3.59. The men taking second in the country highlights how great this team is and continues to be," Taylor said.

Carson-Newman was recognized alongside fellow Division II programs such as West Chester, Florida Southern, Lewis, and Bentley to name a few of the remaining top 10. For the Carson-Newman women's team, they finished with a team GPA of 3.64, which was just short of making the top-10 for the fourth straight year under head coach Jordan Taylor. However, both programs are recongized as Scholar Team Academic All-American since they fit the 3.0 GPA guidelines.

"After what has been a crazy year, and a big adjustment period for our swimmers, they have handled the online learning and change very well. Our team always strives to be the best, working hard in the pool everyday and willing to go above and beyond," Taylor said. "This mentality crosses over to the classroom and as this crossover happens more and more, it has become a common thing on our program to have exceptionally high grades and no one wants to let the team down."
