Pair of school records fall against Wingate

Day 2 Results

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Raphael Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and senior CJ Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) broke a pair of school program records during day 2 of the inaugural Winter Round Robin hosted by Queens University.

Lima set the new program record in the men's 200 freestyle with his time of 1:37.19, besting Matthew George's time of 1:37.76 from the 2020 NCAA Championships. Jensen re-wrote own her record in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:24.37, besting her own 4:24.55 time from the 2020 Conference Championships.

The team opposite the Eagles in the pool was a familiar 2020 foe, the Wingate Bulldogs. Last time, the two faced off was a mere 33 days ago, Nov. 14, inside the confines of the imposing MSAC where the Bulldogs handed the Eagles a 333-297 team defeat.

Due to the unique format of this event, the team competition will not be scored. The competition was cold as ice and once again saw back-and-forth tough and competitive races between the programs. The events which took place were the 100-yd butterfly, the 400-yd individual medley, the 200-yd freestyle, 100-yd breaststroke, 100-yd backstroke, and the 200-yd medley relay.

C-N started off the night gathering a victory in the women's 100-yd butterfly with Manon Compagner's (Balkburg, Netherlands) time of 54.72 (third fastest time in program history). The men collected a top-5 time when freshman Chase Rayment (South Africa) came in at 49.12.

Other top finishes for the Eagles which marked program top-5 finishes include:

  • Joey Clemmer (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) marking the 3rd fastest time in the men's 400 IM at 4:02.02
  • Kailee Morgan (Greeneville, S.C.) gathered the 2nd fastest time in the women's 100 breast at 1:02.52
  • Clemmer swimming a time of 55.90 in the men's 100 breast, good enough for 4th fastest in program history
  • Compagner collecting the 3rd fastest time in program history for the women's 100 back at 56.14

In the night's final event, the Eagles came in with a time of 1:43.20 by Jensen, Morgan, Compagner, and Chrisman Rand (Mount Pleasant, SC) to win the women's 200-medley relay. On the men's side, a time of 1:30.92 by Rayment, Lima, Nikita Puzevich (Belarus), and Brandon Meier (Greeneville, S.C.) was sufficient for second place.

The Eagles will be back in action to wrap up 2020 and Winter Round Robin action tomorrow afternoon starting at 1:00 p.m. against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. The meet will be livestreamed via Wingate's YouTube, and will be linked on Twitter (@cnathletics) and cneagles.com.
