Eagles wrap up day two of Lander Lady Bearcat Invitational

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Carson-Newman finished day two of the Lander Lady Bearcat Invitational in 11th place, but the Eagles finished in front of every South Atlantic Conference team in the field of 18.

The Eagles outpaced Queens, Wingate and Coker.

Still, the result was disappointing for head coach Suzanne Strudwick a day after the Eagles finished with their best first round score of the year

"This was a disappointing day," Strudwick said. "This just shows how much our young team has to learn.  Our big goal was to start strong, we did that.  Now we have to finish strong like we did the first two tournaments.

"I'm still proud of them.  They all struggled, but represented Carson-Newman well.

Chelsea Passmore (Knoxville, Tenn.) was the Eagles' top finisher.  She followed a round one 73 (+1) with an 83 (+11) to close in 23rd place with a 156.

Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) and Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) followed suit with two-day totals of 162 and 163, respectively.  Hawkins finished in a tie for 52nd, and Baiunco a tie for 54th

Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) fell six strokes from day one to two and finished with a 164 following her second round 85 (+13).

Lauren Hodge had the best round of the second day for the Eagles with an 81(+9).

Carson-Newman travels to the Guy Harvey Invitational next week.
