Eagles wrap up day one at PGA National and Guy Harvey Invite

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Carson-Newman's women's golf team finished the opening round of the Guy Harvey Invite with a 336 as the Eagles navigated the PGA National Course, where the PGA Tour plays host to the Honda Classic.

Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) had the best day with an 81 (+9).  Danielle Baiunco (Melboure, Fla.) shot an 84 (+12) in her home state.

Mary Tunnell (Cordova, Tenn.) finished a stroke behind Baiunco with an 85 (+13).

Lauren Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed with an 86 (+14) and an 88 (+16), respectively.

Chelsea Passmore (Knoxville, Tenn.) competed as an individual and turned in an 88 as well.

"This was a tough day for our girls and on the toughest golf course they'll play," head women's golf coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "I'm still proud. I knew they would struggle, but we can only get better by putting ourselves in really difficult tournaments and learning. We'll be better tomorrow."

The Eagles begin the final round Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
