Play suspended for round one of Kiawah Island Invite

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – All five C-N women's golfers completed their opening rounds at the Kiawah Island Invitational, but did so against quickly approaching darkness and damp, windy conditions.

Play was suspended during round one with five squads remaining on the course.

Those teams will resume Sunday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.

We finished in the dark with very difficult conditions and a soaked course," Carson-Newman head women's golf coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Temps dropped 15 degrees from start of  the round. I'm very pleased with all the girls, they never gave up and struggled through the long day. We are looking for a better day tomorrow, with better conditions."

Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) and Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) both were C-N's top finishers with matching 81s (+9).  Lauren Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Mary Tunnell (Cordova, Tenn.) pulled in with an 82 (+10) and 83 (+11), respectively. Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) was C-N's non scoring player with an 84 (+12).

C-N shot 326 as a team.
