Biro's Breakdown: October 24, 2016

Throughout the 2016 volleyball season, freshman middle blocker Alex Biro (Ootlewah, Tenn.) will write about her experiences at Carson-Newman with the volleyball program. A new installment will be released each Monday afternoon.

The first weekend of Conference: Round 2 is in the books! This is the time we've been looking forward to all season. Seeing all these teams again is great because now, moreso for us freshmen, we have something we can expect from our opponents.

Overall, I truly believe this weekend showed us our progress as a team. Although neither game ended in our favor, I think our consistency has picked up. The good swings are coming in pairs, two, four and six at a time.

Our passes and serves are spot-on for longer runs, and when these things come together, we are unstoppable. Our next goal is to implement these fundamentals and runs without allowing our opponent to get into a rhythm of their own. Of course, our Friday night crowd was buzzing which is always such a fun energy to have in the gym.

Another perk of Friday, it was the one and only Eileen Anderson's birthday!!!  With a lot of October birthdays on the team (Taylor, Eileen and mine on Tuesday), I'm surprised we haven't overdosed on sugar yet!!!

Speaking of sugar, want to know the best part about home games? Hannah Robertson's lovely grandma always makes us the best treats! This weekend we had the pleasure of some delicious chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter fudge and homemade Jolly Rancher lollipops. It's a good thing there are a lot of people who pitch in and eat, or else we'd be rolling after balls instead of diving for them. With a rivalry match at Tusculum on Tuesday and another home weekend featuring Coker and Wingate, we're excited to see you all there!

Have a great week!
