Biro's Breakdown: November 14, 2016

Throughout the 2016 volleyball season, freshman middle blocker Alex Biro (Ootlewah, Tenn.) will write about her experiences at Carson-Newman with the volleyball program. A new installment will be released each Monday afternoon.

Everyone hears that the season will fly by, it'll be over before you know it. And even though that had been the case for all of my seasons of volleyball, none were as true as this.

Looking back, us freshies moved in just over three months ago. Not only have we grown as volleyball players, we have also grown as people. Being away from all of our families can get hard, but there is one awesome advantage to playing for Carson-Newman… your volleyball family is always there. Whether it be our roommates who are next to us, our teammates a short walk from us, or our coaches down the road from us, we are a family. And this family is stronger than anything.

After having a roller-coaster of a season, many teams would break apart, lose focus and motivation, bring on-the-court frustrations into their daily lives. And I am so proud and honored to say that I am a part of a team that was the exact opposite. Every practice there was a focus to get better and off the court we were still as close as ever.

Having our last games this past weekend, our main priority was honoring our seniors the best we could. We played hard for them and it was so nice to see Taylor and Eileen's families come together and celebrate their awesome four years here. After the Brevard game on Friday, we all went down to the locker room where we continued the super cool tradition of signing the court… In short, after the gym was remodeled a few years ago, they took the old floor off and installed a part of it onto the wall in our locker room and painted it to look like the Holt Fieldhouse volleyball court. Every year, the seniors of the team sign it so they will forever be an Eagle.

We went upstairs for a DELICIOUS dessert bar and hung out with our volleyball family. I love being a Carson-Newman Eagle and everything that being an Eagle stands for, and I know our CNVB family is going to bless me with the best years of my life.

Thanks to everyone who supported us through thick and thin and as always, GO EAGLES!!!
