Streeter’s career effort inadequate as Indians sweep of Eagles

SALISBURY, N.C. – Marnie Streeter recorded her first career double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs as the Catawba College Catwaba Indians slugged .217 in a sweep of Carson-Newman 25-22, 25-14 and 25-22 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday evening at Goodman Gym.

Carson-Newman (3-25, 2-18) wrapped up its road schedule with the loss to Catawba (15-10, 13-7) posting a 1-11 mark in 12 games away from Holt Fieldhouse.

Streeter (Goldvein, Va.) and Kendall Cooley (Castle Rock, Colo.) had six and five kills respectively in the opening set. Catawba scored seven of the first nine points of the match. C-N chipped away and took the lead on three occasions with the final time coming at 17-16. The Indians won five straight points to go ahead by four. The Eagles pulled within one at 23-22 before dropping the final two of the set.

With the score tied at five, Catawba won four straight points to take the lead. C-N tied the score at 10 with a 5-1 sequence of its own only to see the Indians reel off nine of the next 10 to take control before winning the set on a kill from Alex Hopper.

The Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held a three-point lead at 17-14 when the Indians rattled off six points to go ahead 20-17. C-N knotted the score at 22 only the see Catawba College win the final three rallies to capture the sweep.

Catawba finished the day with 57 digs, six blocks and five service aces while Carson-Newman hit .102 with 51 digs, five rejections and four aces.

Streeter notched her 10th straight night with double-digit kills while surpassing her previous career-high in digs of eight with 12 scoops.

Junior setter Anna Patton (Franklin, Tenn.) had 28 assists and 10 digs to post her 12th double-double of the season.

Senior libero Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) finished with 17 digs.

McKenzie Garrison recorded 10 kills and 10 digs and Audrey Hoffman add 10 smashes. Rachel Stanford handed out 35 assists.

Carson-Newman closes out the 2016 season with a pair of home matches on Nov. 11 and 12 against Brevard and Lenoir-Rhyne. The contest against Brevard will be senior day for the Eagles.
