Biro's Breakdown: November 7, 2016

Throughout the 2016 volleyball season, freshman middle blocker Alex Biro (Ootlewah, Tenn.) will write about her experiences at Carson-Newman with the volleyball program. A new installment will be released each Monday afternoon.

Wow, I can't believe that our last two matches of the season are already here!! All that talk we had about the second half of conference play seems like yesterday and here we are at the end of it.

Last week was our last three-game stretch, all away. I must say that our drive to Mars Hill on Tuesday had everyone a little bit in awe. It's finally starting to look like fall in East Tennessee and the colorful drive through the Smokies only reinforced that.

Ready to come back to the gym on Wednesday, coach told us to meet in the locker room and not to change into our practice gear. A little bit confused we went down and he surprised us with cancelling practice. We've had a long month with a four-game tournament and three three-game weeks in a row, and sometimes the best perspective is from a distance.

So, we happily took the day off and got back into our volleyball groove, after Anna and Morgan brought us their homemade pumpkin bread and peanut butter fudge. After Thursday's practice and into Friday morning, we all got packed and ready for our final away weekend. It had been a while, our last away weekend was at Brevard and Lenoir Rhyne on October 7 and 8!!!!!

We made the trek to Queens where a lot of family and past teammates showed up, it was actually a pretty large fan section if I do say so myself. A lot of good things happened in that game and I know that made us all excited that things were becoming good habits.

We started off our Saturday with the best competition ever… bowling. All the claws came out and Abbie and coach had a left-handed bowling competition. If Abbie won, we would all get ice cream, but after the bet was on I think coach turned up the heat a little bit. Afterwards we had lunch at a delicious little café and headed to Catawba. After beating LMU the night before and having their Senior Night against us, they came ready to play and it showed.

A bunch of lessons can be learned from this weekend and we are looking forward to enforcing them during practice this week. Our last two games are at home, we play Brevard on Friday at 7 p.m. for Senior Night and Lenoir Rhyne at 2 p.m. on Saturday. We hope to see you all there!

Have a great week!
