Eagles, Wolves move up opener to Thursday night, Sept. 1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman will keep alive a grand tradition of opening the season on a Thursday night. 

The Eagles' season-opener at West Georgia has been moved from Saturday, Sept. 3 at 6:00 p.m. to Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:00 p.m.  

This will mark Carson-Newman's first trip to Carrolton.  The Eagles lead the all-time series 5-1, but West Georgia defeated the Eagles in Burke-Tarr Stadium last year 45-7. 

Carson-Newman has started the season on a Thursday night every year since 2011.  The Eagles are 7-2 in Thursday openers with losses to West Florida in 2018 and West Georgia last season.  The Eagles are 1-1 in road Thursday openers. Carson-Newman beat Glenville State 45-20 to start the 2011 season and lost in Pensacola to the Argos 19-9.

The game will be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville) and Mountain Sports 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live starting with the AEC Tailgate Show at 6 p.m.
