Eagle alum Wimbush nets IFL All-Rookie honors

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman football's third all-time leading rusher Antonio Wimbush has been lauded with a spot on the Indoor Football League's All-Rookie team, the league announced last week. 

Wimbush, who signed with the Iowa Barnstormers in the spring, was the top choice in the league at running back after averaging 4.2 yards per carry with 629 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns. 

He impacted both the IFL and the Barnstormer record books in week 18 on July 13.  Wimbush stampeded to a league and club record seven rushing touchdowns in a 61-48 Barnstormer win over the Tucson Sugar Skulls.

He finished the night with 90 yards rushing on 16 carries. 

An All-American as an Eagle and the 2018  Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year, Wimbush became the third member of Carson-Newman's 4,000-yard rushing club. He finished his career third all-time in rushing yards with 4,003. 

Wimbush had 17, 100-yard rushing performances for his career, good enough for second on the all-time list. Wimbush is the sixth player in program history with 40 career rushing touchdowns. He had 41 in his career.

He is the sixth player in Carson-Newman history with multiple 1,000-yard rushing campaigns.  He has joined the likes of Kenneth Tyson, Robert Thomas, Tyrone Westmoreland, Brandon Baker and Nate Inman.
