JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head football coach Mike Clowney has announced the hiring of former Georgia State kicker Barry Brown as a graduate assistant aiding with the offensive line.
"Coach Brown is a guy that we are fortunate to get," Clowney said. "He worked with kickers at Dublin High School as well as a bunch of different areas. He will be able to utilize those varied skill sets to help us.
Brown makes the transition to the college game after spending time as an assistant at Dublin High School.
Brown was a three-year letterwinner at placekicker for Georgia State and was on the team when the Panthers beat the University of Tennessee 38-30 in 2019.
He filled in at placekicker due to injury to Brandon Wright, including kickoffs for the first six games of Georgia State's season in 2018, making his first career field goal attempt with a 40-yarder at Memphis. He also hit from 30 yards vs. Western Michigan.
Enrolled in Georgia State's honors college, Brown was a three-year member of the Sun Belt Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll and Georgia State's Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
