BREVARD, N.C. – Carson-Newman (7-11, 2-6 SAC) crushed Brevard (2-17, 0-9 SAC) Friday afternoon 8-1 to win back-to-back matches.
In singles play, Curt Duncan (Morristown, Tenn.) beat Richie Liell 6-2, 6-2 in the no. 5 spot. At no. 1 singles, Juan Perez (Ecuador) won 6-3, 6-3 against Johannes Kloster . Freshman Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) brought in another win at no. 3 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Stefano Giovanolli.
After a tiebreaker, Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) triumphed over George Finch with a 6-2, 7-6 (10-4) final decision.
Dalton Moore (Gate City, Va.) was granted a point at no. 6 singles by default.
Brevard gained their lone point at no. 2 singles after Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) retired the match.
At no. 2 doubles, Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) and Holdway trounced their opponents Finch and Giovanolli 8-1. Perez and Mackay pulled out a closer match in the no. 1 position winning 8-6 over Kloster and David Taggart.
In the no. 3 doubles spot, Allen and Duncan won by default.
The Eagles play their last regular season match at home Sunday against Mars Hill at 1:00 p.m.
