HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Carson-Newman (0-1) dropped hotly contested matches at no. 2 and 3 singles as Alabama-Huntsville (3-3) took a 9-0 decision from the Eagles in their 2013 opener.
Nestor Perez took a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 decision from Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) at no. 2 singles to clinch the match for the Chargers.
Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) also battled tough with Frank Graaner at no. 4 singles before falling in a third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.
The Eagles open their home season Sunday at 1 p.m. against Young Harris.
