Allen seizes win at no. 5 singles, but Newberry plows past C-N

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) won a three-set tiebreaker at no. 5 singles with David Sons 4-6, 6-4, 10-2, but Carson-Newman (2-9, 0-5 SAC) dropped its fifth straight SAC match 8-1 to Newberry (8-7, 1-3 SAC).

The Wolves swept the doubles point, but Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) and Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) made things interesting in an 8-6 loss to Carlos Nicolopulos and Cal Loveridge.

Juan Sebastian Perez (Ecuador) battled at no. 1 singles before losing 7-5, 6-2 to Michael Sanders.

Carson-Newman's Sunday match at Lenoir-Rhyne has been moved to April 1 because of the threat of inclement weather in Hickory, N.C.

The Eagles travel to North Greenville March 27 for a 1 p.m. match.
