JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (7-12, 2-7 SAC) dropped the match to Mars Hill (5-9, 4-5 SAC) on Sunday afternoon 5-4.

In singles play, senior Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) found success against Michael Melvill in the no. 3 position with a 6-0, 6-2 final decision.

Freshman Jon Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) triumphed over Sam Lee 7-5, 6-2 a no. 4 singles. In the no. 5 spot, Austin Mackay (Oakridge, Tenn.) defeated Zach High 6-2, 6-3. Both Allen and Mackay ended the season with back-to-back wins.

Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) and Holdway paired up at no. 2 doubles to sweep Melvill and Joel Sturgis 8-0.

Allen and Curt Duncan (Morristown, Tenn.) were nearly victorious at no. 3 doubles but fell in heartbreaking fashion 8-6 to High and Lee.

Carson-Newman finishes its season in eighth place in the league standings.
