Eagles bring home conference win, extend win streak to three matches

HICKORY, N.C. – Carson-Newman (5-8, 1-4 South Atlantic Conference) brought home its first conference victory by beating Lenoir Rhyne (2-9, 1-8 SAC) winning 6-3 Monday afternoon.

In singles play, Juan Perez (Ecuador) sealed the first win for the Eagles beating David Richardson 6-4, 6-2 in the no. 1 spot. Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) found success versus Jordan Lawson with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at no. 5 singles. At no. 3 singles, Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) came out on top with a 6-1, 6-3 final score against Filip Dobrosavljevic.

In the no. 6 singles position, Curt Duncan (Morristown, Tenn.) made his first appearance of the year for the tennis team after finishing spring football practice and beat Matthew Ledford in two sets after a tiebreaker 6-2, 7-6 (10-5).

The team of Duncan and Allen battled Lawson and Ledford at no. 3 doubles and came out victorious with an 8-4 final. At no. 2 doubles, Holdway and Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) won 8-5 against John Christian Reid and Kilian Symalla.

Perez and Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) came close to triumph at no. 1 doubles but were defeated in the end 8-5 by Richardson and Dobrosavljevic.

The Eagles faceoff against North Georgia on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
