Carson-Newman Slips Past Queens, 2-1, in OT

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The 17th-ranked Carson-Newman women's soccer team slipped past Queens, 2-1, with a golden goal in the 7th minute of the first overtime by sophomore Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) on Friday night at McCown Field.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season, while Queens falls to 0-3.

Carson-Newman stepped out strong in the first half and out shot Queens. The first Lady Eagle goal came after 33 minutes of play, when freshman Andrea Saevik (Norway) placed the ball in the back of the net past Queens keeper Kristen Kornacki.

Queens struck back with 4 minutes remaining in the half. Forward Kristen Wright tied the game with a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net over C-N keeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario).

The remainder of the first half was controlled by the Lady Eagles. The second half opened with Carson-Newman possessing the ball for most of the half. The Lady Eagles out shot Queens 37-4 in regulation.

Carson-Newman and Queens came out strong in overtime, but Howell found the back of the net with three minutes remaining in overtime to seal the victory for the Lady Eagles.

Carson-Newman returns to McCown Field to take on the Pfeiffer Falcons on Saturday at 6 p.m.
