Lady Eagles Shut Out Pfeiffer, 3-0, for Fourth-Straight Win

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The 17th-ranked Carson-Newman women's soccer team won its fourth-straight match on Saturday night by shutting out Pfeiffer, 3-0, at McCown Field.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season, while Pfeiffer drops to 1-1-1.

"We are very pleased with the win, and it's another clean sheet, which is good for the back four and goalkeeper," C-N coach Phil McNamara said. "We had a lot of good chances early and we showed a bit of determination to win the game."

C-N outshot the Falcons 18-2 on the night, including 12 shots on goal.

Despite being on the attack for most of the first half, the Lady Eagles managed just one goal before heading into the locker room. C-N found success in the 26th minute, as Sandra Kaelin (Switzerland) fired a shot into the right corner of the net past Pfeiffer keeper Suzie Hinman to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.

C-N put the match away early in the second half by scoring two goals in the first 13 minutes. Nikki Brannen (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) gave the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead as she dribbled past Hinman and placed the ball in the back of the net in the 51st minute.

The Lady Eagles pushed their lead to 3-0 less than six minutes later, as Morgan Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.) finished off a pass from Brannen in the 58th minute.

"The team that came out in the second half had a little bit more purpose about them," McNamra said.

Hinman tallied nine saves on the night, while C-N goalkeeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario) collected two saves.

C-N returns to action on Friday in a road match against Lynn University in Milledgeville, Ga., at 6:15 p.m.
