Howell's Goal in the 89th Minute lifts No. 11 Carson-Newman Past Georgia College, 1-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 11 ranked Carson-Newman Lady Eagles grabbed an 89th minute goal to seal a victory over Georgia College. Sophomore Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) headed the ball off of a deflected save from the keeper to lead the Lady Eagles to a 1-0 victory. The deflection came from a shot from junior defender, Melissa Morris (Sweetwater, Tenn.). Carson-Newman improves to 6-0 on the season. Georgia College falls to 2-3-1.

For 89 minutes, Carson-Newman outshot Georgia College 27-7. In the last ten seconds of regulation, Howell finished the ball to grab the win for Carson-Newman.

The Lady Eagles competed against Lynn University Friday, September 11, winning 3-2 in the Little Feet Tournament. Three Lady Eagles were named to the All-Tournament Team. Freshman midfielder, Andrea Saevik (Norway), senior forward Nikki Brannen (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario) received all-tournament honors.

Carson-Newman travels to Columbus, Georgia, Friday, September 18 to face the University of Tampa at 2 p.m.
