No. 7 Carson-Newman Women's Soccer Downs Tusculum, 3-1, In South Atlantic Conference Action Wednesday

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 7 Carson-Newman College Women's Soccer Team (10-0-0, 2-0-0 SAC) defeated Tusculum College (9-3-0, 2-1-0 SAC) by a 3-1 score in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday night at Pioneer Field. With the victory, the Lady Eagles are off to their best start in school history and are on a 10-match winning streak, also a new school best.

Carson-Newman struck first late in the 21st minute, as sophomore Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) won the ball from the defense inside the 18-yard box and drove a shot to the far post in the scored her. The goal was Howell's fourth in five matches.

Seven minutes later the Lady Eagles struck again. Andrea Saevik (Bolandet, NORWAY) beat three defenders on the attack and curled her strike inside the post to put C-N up 2-0.

Tusculum would not go into the half scoreless, however. Just inside 10 minutes left to play before the break (34:35), Kayla Durden (Taylor Mill, Ky.) got the benefit of a deflected ball that she directed into the upper 90 of the goal to close the Lady Eagle lead to 2-1.

Carson-Newman would gain an insurance goal with 22:00 minutes remaining in the match. Lizeth Munguia (Wilmington, N.C.) scored her second goal in as many matches when she took a corner kick from Howell and put the ball in the back of the net for the final 3-1 margin.

C-N sophomore Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario, CANADA) picked up the win in goal making four saves while TC's Marjaana Kaaresvirta (Turka, FINLAND) picked up 10 saves of her own despite the loss.

Carson-Newman will travel to Mars Hill, N.C., Saturday to take on the Lions of Mars Hill College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
