Carson-Newman Climbs to Seventh in NSCAA Poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Carson-Newman women's soccer team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the Division II National Soccer Coaches' Association of America poll, NSCAA officials announced Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles, who are 9-0 on the season after defeating Lenoir-Rhyne in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Sunday, are the only SAC team listed in the national top 25 and are also ranked second in the Southeast Region.

Seattle Pacific (Wash.), the 2008 Division II national champion, remains at No. 1, followed by West Florida, Saint Rose (N.Y.), Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Columbus State.

Columbus State also holds the top spot in the Southeast Region, while Armstrong Atlantic State is third.

Other schools listed in the regional rankings from the SAC are Tusculum (fourth), Newberry (fifth), Wingate (sixth) and Lenoir-Rhyne (seventh).

Three automatic berths to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Tournament in November will be awarded to the tournament champions of the SAC, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas. Three teams will also receive at-large berths.

C-N returns to the pitch on Wednesday in a SAC road matchup against rival Tusculum. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. in Greeneville, Tenn.
