C-N heads to Newberry for first SAC match of 2014

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (2-5, 0-0 SAC) men's tennis team prepares to open conference play at Newberry (2-2, 0-1 SAC) tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.

"This is another opportunity for us to get better," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "and learn about ourselves."

The Eagles are coming off a gigantic 5-4 victory over Lee University last Tuesday. The doubles teams of Perez and Oliveira at no. 1 and Daza and Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) at no. 2 put the Eagles up 2-1 going into singles play.

Singles victories from Juan Perez (Ecuador), Joao Pedro Oliveira (Brazil) and Stefano Daza sealed the win for C-N.

"We are going to stay focused on the process of doing the little things it takes to get better," Coach Love said. "Each individual and each doubles team is committed to this approach."

On Feb. 8, the Wolves fell 6-3 at Anderson in their first conference contest. The doubles team of Fernando Espana/Carlos Nicolopulos claimed the Wolves' lone doubles point in the no. 2 spot.

Michael Saunders and Vinicius Botelho contributed the second two points at no. 1 and no. 2 singles respectively.

"This match is especially important because it is our conference opener," Coach Love said. "We want to get off to a good start."

The match is set to start at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
