Eagles rope in two All-SAC awards

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's Juan Perez (Ecuador) and Joao Pedro Oliveria (Brazil) each earned All-South Atlantic Conference honorable mention for men's tennis singles on Tuesday.

"The best part about these two," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "is that they are just as good citizens of the C-N community as they are tennis players."

Perez finished conference play of his sophomore season 3-7 in singles play. He is currently 6-15 overall with one match left on the schedule.

"Juan followed up a good freshman year," Coach Love said, "with a solid sophomore season. He came through with some big singles wins at the number two line late in the season."

His freshman year, Perez was a second team All-SAC selection. He played the no. 1 position for the season in both singles and doubles.

"JP just continued to elevate his play as the season went along," Coach Love said. "Thus, he moved up in the line to finish the season playing at line one position."

Pedro concluded his freshman singles season 1-9 in the conference. With one match remaining, Pedro is presently 3-17 overall.

"[Pedro] does everything solidly," Coach Love said. "His weapon is his movement, his court coverage. He is a smart player too."

The Eagles host King in their final match tomorrow at 2 p.m.
