Men’s tennis prepares for conference rival

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (4-13, 2-4 SAC) men's tennis team hosts Tusculum (11-3, 4-1 SAC) tomorrow at 1 p.m.

 

The Eagles defeated conference foe Brevard 5-4 last Thursday. C-N went into singles play trailing 2-1. The team of Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Joao Pedro Oliveria (Brazil) secured the Eagles' lone doubles point in the no. 2 position with an 8-0 decision.

 

Oliveria and Mackay each contributed an additional point at no. 3 and 5 singles respectively. Stefano Daza (Venezuela) defeated his opponent in three sets at no. 2 singles while Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) toppled his in two sets in the no. 4 spot.

 

Yesterday, Tusculum dominated Newberry 7-2. The Pioneers also hold SAC victories over Mars Hill, Catawba and Lincoln Memorial.

 

Last season, the Eagles fell 8-1 at Tusculum. Allen claimed C-N's point at no. 5 singles after John Taylor retired the match in the second set.

 

Free t-shirts will be provided to supporters at the C-N tennis match tomorrow while supplies last. The contest will begin at 1 p.m. at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.
