Eagles unable to reel in Sailfish

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second consecutive day the Carson-Newman men's tennis team lost 7-2 to a Sunshine State Conference opponent; this time it was to Palm Beach Atlantic.

"The doubles let us down again today. Our singles play was competitive once again." Carson-Newman coach Jean Love said, "The past two matches have shown us where we are and what we need to do to get better. I am really pleased with the effort we have given in the match. Now we have to get better, especially in doubles play."

Jesus Bacete-Sanz (Madrid, Spain) was the only Carson-Newman (0-2) player to pick-up victories on both Friday and Saturday. Bacete-Sanz improved to 2-0 on the season after a three-set victory over Thomas Salmon (5-7, 6-0, 10-6). Gabriel Dabdab (Brazil) picked up his first collegiate victory on Saturday afternoon with a straight sets victory over Pietro de Silva (7-6, 6-2).

Senior Joao Pedro Oliveira (Brazil) lost in straight sets for the first time this season falling to Pato Zarazua (7-6, 6-4). Rodolfo Schwarz falls in straight sets in back-to-back days this time to Philipp Hoffmann (6-1, 6-2).

Marc Bantel (Germany) and Stefano Daza (Venezuela) did not fare any better at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions. Bantel lost two close sets to Palm Beach Atlantic (1-0) player Rafael Lenz (7-5, 7-5). After a victory on Friday afternoon Daza was unable to replicate his success on the tennis court on Saturday falling in straight sets (6-0, 6-3).

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Schwarz and Daza lost a very close match to the Sailfish duo of Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira (8-6). Oliveira and Dabdab fell 8-2 in No.2 doubles to the tandem of Zarazua and De Silva. Bacete-Sanz and Bantel rounded out doubles play with an 8-3 loss at the No. 3 position.

The Eagles will be on the road once again for their next match. This time traveling to Louisville, Ky to take on Bellarmine, match time is set for 8 p.m.
